What is BSF Frass?
BSF Frass is a premium organic fertilizer produced from food waste processed by Black Soldier Fly larvae. It is the residue the larvae leave behind — a fine, dark, nutrient-dense material that gardeners have used as a soil amendment for as long as insect farming has existed.
Ours is then heat treated, which reduces pathogens and leaves a product that is cleaner, safer and more stable to store. Rich in natural nutrients and organic matter, it improves soil fertility, encourages healthy plant growth and raises yields sustainably.
It feeds the soil, not just the plant
A chemical fertilizer delivers nutrients directly to the plant and leaves the soil no better than it found it. Frass works the other way round: the organic matter improves soil structure and supports the beneficial micro-organisms that make nutrients available in the first place.
The practical difference is that soil treated with frass tends to hold moisture better and stay workable, and the improvement compounds over repeated applications rather than washing out.
Strong roots, healthier plants
Healthy root development is what everything above ground depends on. Frass supports root growth and improves nutrient uptake, and the result shows in plants that are greener and more vigorous, stand up better to disease, and carry a heavier, better-quality crop.

How to use it
Directions
Roughly 1 to 2 tablespoons for a medium-sized pot.

Sprinkle around the plant
Scatter about 1 tablespoon of BSF Frass in a ring, 2 to 3 cm away from the base of the plant.

Mix into the soil
Work it lightly into the top layer of soil.

Water as usual
Water the plant so the frass begins to break down into the soil.

Repeat every 2 to 4 weeks
Reapply on the same cycle for the best results.

What exactly is frass?

What does 'heat treated' mean?
The frass is treated with heat to reduce pathogens. The result is a cleaner, safer and more stable product than untreated frass — and it stores well without developing a smell.
How often should I apply it?
Every 2 to 4 weeks. Sprinkle about a tablespoon in a ring 2 to 3 cm from the base of the plant, mix it lightly into the soil and water as normal. Roughly 1 to 2 tablespoons suits a medium-sized pot.
Can I use it on vegetables and herbs I am going to eat?

Does it smell?
